Weekly update 18/11/18

Xmas Do – If you have as yet not sent in for your Xmas Do tickets, please do so asap, Mary really does need to sort out final numbers, it should be a great night so don’t sit on the fence, get your tickets ordered now. There will be good food, a really good live band and Brians Christmas speech to look forward to…  which leads me neatly onto:
Les Witton Award: Whilst most of the club awards are decided by the committee, an important annual award is voted on by members. The Les Witton awarda are named in memory of well thought of DRR member who died some years ago following a run at the Wilmington 10k. All members get a vote, and are asked to vote for one male and one female who they consider should get some form of recognition for their efforts at the club, it may be someone who has helped you personally, the club in general, or anyone whose efforts you think deserves your thanks. There will be a voting box at the Christmas do for those attending, but for those unable to attend you can vote in advance by sending your nomination to Stella Nicholls.
Grand Prix: Well done to the 22 who ran at Brighton today, plenty of pb’s on what is a fast flat course, albeit with a bit of a headwind. This is the final race in this years Grand Prix and Ian will be updating the tables asap with the results, trophies will be awarded at the Christmas do. I am handing over the GP to Ian Martin for 2019 and I am sure will be updating you with his plans and races shortly
Sunday Run. Thanks to Wilmo for leading a Sunday social run today, these used to be very much the third training session of the week, and an essential part of most members running but have slipped off the radar in recent years, We will not put on a run every Sunday but where we can, we will, and would ask for your support – without runners to run it could wither on the vine…
London  Marathon draw: We have the very lovely Roy Knight as the recipient of our club London Marathon place for 2019, he has been a great supporter of this club for many years so wish him well with his training. Richey has now put the updated marathon waiting list on the website, if you wish to be added, let me have sight of your marathon rejection for this year and I will draw the names out on the ‘fun run, Mince Pie Night on December
Kent League: Next Saturday at 2pm is the next race which is for senior men only, if you have not yet run this year, I shall be there so please collect your numbers/ chips which need to be retained for the last race in the series on February 9th .. at a venue to be confirmed, although I suspect it may well be at Sparrows Den at West Wickham.
Kent Fitness League – Next Sunday at 11am sees the third in this years series with the excellent, 2 lap course at Oxleas Wood in Eltham being the venue – can be a bit muddy, so trail shoes are a minimum I would suggest. Up the A2, off at Falconwood, turn right, then left onto the Rochester Way and you can park on road past the first set of traffic lights – we normally meet at the cafe on the hill. Our mens team are currently in second place. and our ladies in seventh, and although Petts Wood will be a difficult team to beat this year, DRR always travel well, so please come along and  have a good run. Please note that following the recent death of a member of host club Plumstead Runners, there will be a minutes observance prior to the race..
Training: On Tuesday, Lisa will be holding a session on the Highfield Road/Princes Road/Heath Lane triangle, leaving Princes at 6.50pm or at Highfield Road at 7pm
Wednesday sees Terry’s session at theCentral Park Track at 7pm – quality session, please bring a few quid for the track entry fees
On Thursday, again leaving Princes at 6.50pm for a warm up run to Princes Road /Shepherds Lane junction (or direct there at at 7.10pm) where Sarah will put you through your paces on the Princes Road/London Road/Shepherds Lane loop
